Cleopatra – The Lumineers

Hi, Nellie here! The album that I think I’ve been obsessing over the most this week has to be Cleopatra by the Lumineers. For me, there are two key parts to the music I listen to, which must balance – the lyrics and the tune (I know it seems obvious, but stick with me). Some songs have a really catchy tune, but absolutely nonsensical lyrics (and not in the good, kooky, Queen kind of way) and others have really poignant lyrics but the tune doesn’t even get into your head when you want it to. With the songs in this album, I think that The Lumineers have got it pretty much spot on.

My favourite tracks within the album have to be Sleep On the Floor and Cleopatra. I absolutely adore the wistfulness and hope of Sleep On the Floor, and completely sympathise with the need to leave the place that you grew up in. The softer tune is also pretty great, because it means that you can play it in the background of your day-to-day life and it pleases your ears, but doesn’t disturb your focus too much. In fact, the same can be said for the whole album, really. The reason why I like Cleopatra (the song) so much is because it is the kind of song that you can play really loudly and just dance around your house, singing along to. These kind of songs are so special because, in my mind, they’re like bottled happiness and a sense of freedom.

The Journey Begins

Hello, Nellie here. I’m not a musician (though I’d love to be), I just really like music. In fact, I do slightly obsess over it. That’s why I decided to create this blog, to discuss and vent my love for albums and artists (because I think my friends are a little sick it to be honest). I never try to limit myself to one type or genre of music, because with such a wide range of music that’s available to us, I think it’d be rather stupid and very boring to give yourself limits and rules as to what you listen to.

So here we go, I guess!
